Evaluating Speech Content Component



Hello!
Now I want to presente you the chart of three persuasive speeches. "If today were the last day of my life would I want to do what I am about to do?" - this is the topic of all 3 speeches.

The first prize I would give to the third speech. This speech impressed me more than others. I liked the examples and some phrases.

Evaluating of the speech: 

1. Introduction:
  • What technique(s) was used in the introduction (attention-getter)? 
Speech starts with the rhetorical question of Steve Jobs and then was question to the auditory.
  • Any link element?
Yes, they are a short descriptions of the stories from speaker's life.
  • Was the thesis statement given?
Yes, it was given.
  • How effective was the introduction?
Very effective - 10

2. Body:
  • How well structured was the information presented?
Highly organized - 10
  • What organizational structure was used in the body of the speech?
There were three parts from speaker's life: the first was from childhood, the second from school and the third from present days
  • How understandable was the information?
The information was  understandable and clearly conveyed  - 10 
  • Quality of point - support 
Lots of  - 10
  • Use of facts, illustrations, examples, stories.
There are lots of facts, illustrations and examples - 8 points
  • Was it coherent? 
Yes, it was. - 10 points 

3. Conclusion:
  • What technique(s) was used in the conclusion?
There was used an open question to the auditory.
  • Were all the steps followed (summary, action, emotional appeal)?
There is summary, but I think, that it's enough for conclusion of this speech.
  • How effective was the conclusion?
The conclusion is very effective - 8 points.

 The second place takes speech № 2:

1. Introduction:
  • What technique(s) was used in the introduction (attention-getter)? 
Speeech starts with parable.
  • Any link element?
Yes, link elemen is a sentence "This parable leads me to my thesis".
  • Was the thesis statement given?
Yes, it was.
  • How effective was the introduction?
Very effective - 10

2. Body:

  • How well structured was the information presented?
Highly organized - 9 points.
  • What organizational structure was used in the body of the speech?
There was used such phrases: "So lets begin with suffering.", "The second thing....", "The third word...".
  • How understandable was the information?
The information was clearly explained  - 10 
  • Quality of point - support 
Lots of  - 10
  • Use of facts, illustrations, examples, stories.
There are lots of facts, illustrations and examples - 8 points
  • Was it coherent? 
Yes, it was. - 10 points

3. Conclusion:
  • What technique(s) was used in the conclusion?
The speech ends with a question.
  • Were all the steps followed (summary, action, emotional appeal)?
Yes.
  • How effective was the conclusion?
Very effective - 8 points.

Yes, link element are the names of the speaker's ideas.

Yes, it was.

There was used such phrases: "Let's start with...", "Now let's look at the second important thing.", "And finally".

The information was clearly explained  - 10
